The DuBois Pioneer Home
Jupiter Sights presents The DuBois Pioneer Home.
Travel back in time by visiting the DuBois Pioneer Home and see what life was like over 100 years ago. In 1898 Harry DuBois built what is now known as "the House on the Hill" in DuBois Park. It sits atop an ancient Native American shell midden consisting of oyster and other shells, as well as ancient trade beads and pottery that were discovered later on. A little shed built to store the harvested crops, primarily pineapples, is located right next to the house in the park. The Pineapple House is older than the house, making it one of the oldest wooden structures in Palm Beach County today.
The house's first residents were Harry and Susan DuBois, who met on a blind date at the Jupiter Lighthouse set up by Charlie Carlin. Harry wore many hats as a pineapple farmer and commercial fisherman. Harry was also responsible for transporting building materials that arrived in Jupiter to Henry Flagler. Susan came to Florida with her father and started teaching. During World War I, sugar was unavailable, so Henry expanded his beekeeping to 600 hives and exported the honey to northern markets. Later the DuBois children took over the family business.
In the main house you'll find the original floors, furniture, and the kitchen, which was added on later. Weekly guided tours let you walk through the rooms and teach you all about the history of the family and house.
Fact or Fiction - Many locals believe the house to be haunted.
